Century each by Malay Banerjee, Satyabrata Mukherjee and eight-wicket haul by Dilip Doshi enabled Bengal maul Orissa by an innings and 86 runs on the last day their three-day Ranji Trophy East Zone match at Veer Surendra Sai Stadium in Sambalpur today.
This was Bengal’s 24th win and 18th by innings margin in 25 Ranji matches against Orissa. Bengal laid the foundation of the easy win by declaring their first innings at 388 for three after electing to bat first. Banerjee and Mukherjee slammed 155 and 162 respectively.
In reply, Orissa were bowled out for 142 in the first innings and 160 in the second after being forced to follow on. Somnath Sahoo was the only Orissa batsman to put up good fight against the Bengal bowling attack, hitting 31 and in the first innings and 63 in the second.
Among Bengal bowlers, Doshi was most successful, capturing four wickets in each innings. He was well complimented by Aloke Bhattacharjee, who picked up three wickets in both the innings. Orissa bowler Biswajit Mohanty made his first-class debut in this match.
